RESEARCH PROJECTS
2022-2025 Using Media in Nursery Schools, Primary Schools and in After-School Care Clubs

2021-2025 INTER-DI-KO: Innovative and Interdisciplinary Use of Digital Media in Education
This project is funded by the Austrian Association for the Promotion of Applied Research and focusses on the development and evaluation of new pedagogical approaches in integrating digital media in education (from children to adults and all kinds of educational contexts).
2021-2022 Digital Parent Networks
This project was funded by the University of Surrey. A qualitative pilot study on how parents make use of digital media for networking, and in searching for support and information has been conducted in the UK, in Portugal, in Denmark and in Austria. Results will be published soon.
2020-2021 Kids’ Digital Engagement in Covid-19 Times (KiDiCoTi)
This European project has been funded by the JRC. More information as well as published results can be found here.
2019-2022 Smartphone Repertoires of Adolescents and Young Adults
In this project we conducted a pilot study on how people from 12 to 25 years old used their smartphones. Our main interest was what they were exactly doing when they were using the smartphones (e.g. which apps, what expected gratifications etc.). Based on a qualitative mixed methods design we conducted interviews and used a card sorting method for sorting apps with regards to their relevance. Based on this pilot study a grant application for a broader study in Austria and Switzerland has been submitted.

Examples therefore could be narratives about historical facts or events (also anniversaries ofhistorical events), how they are constructed by different social groups and for which purpose different pictures of history are constructed. The research should focus on critical inquiry of online communication from an interdisciplinary perspective. Connected topics, such as how historical places that might have turned to museums or places of remembrance use social media to promote their messages, will also be considered.
Proposed supervisor: Christine Trültzsch-Wijnen, christine.trultzsch-wijnen@fsv.cuni.cz
Parenting in a digital environment
The aim of this PhD position consists of research on how parents use digital media for their parenting activities. This could include research on formal or informal digital parent networks, on parent influencers, or on how different kinds of parenting advice found online is used by mothers and fathers.
